A community Connection to Fresh Food.
Food deserts are defined as parts of the country lacking in fresh food, vegetables, and other healthy food options, usually found in impoverish areas. This is largely due to the lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers.

Objective
For this design challenge, we ideate an application which both builds a sense of community and addresses factors of food deserts.
Overview
Our team set out to understand how people living in food deserts behaved as to create a design solution and application. We are interested in learning grocery buying habits, cooking habits, food budgets, and digital life styles.
Project Plan
Our design team developed a six-week project plan using agile methodology consisting of five design sprints. We will perform discovery, user research, preliminary design, high-fidelity design and a clickable prototype during the six week project.
Research
Use Research
The research phase of our project consisted of interviews and research into some existing literature on food deserts. Our group conducted 6 in-person interviews. The literature review consisted of academic articles from the past 10-12 years from journals such as Urban Studies, and other anthropology and sociology texts. The former was to gather information on food habits and ones specific to ordering from food trucks.
In addition, through the latter we set out to incorporate the following leanings:
Definitions of food deserts
Socio-economic behaviors
Cultural, access, cost and other barriers
Policy initiatives
Based on our research we have developed a customer journey map, two design personas, and over 20 ideas to develop a great product.
User Journey Map
We created a current state User Journey map based on the feedback gathered from our interviews. While creating the user journey, we noted areas of friction and chronicled the emotions of users during their experience. We will explore the potential solutions in the next stages of the project.
Design
Wireflow
As we refine our concept design, our team set out define the user journey in our new product. Using the information we captured during our research phase, we focused on both of our personas, allowing for quick search for new food and for the busy mom who wants to eat healthy and local.
